LANSING — Some sections of the Kalamazoo River that have been closed to recreationalists since an oil spill last summer might be reopened by mid-to-late August, a health official said Friday.

A contractor working for Enbridge Energy has fired one of the sub-contractors hired to help clean up the Kalamazoo River. Enbridge Energy is now focusing their clean up efforts on newly discovered oil in the Kalamazoo River.

Lakeshia Gibbs, 32, became homeless after Enbridge Inc.’s July 26 oil spill into Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River, but through ingenuity and serendipity, she has found stability for her and her family.
